Xiam Announces MPOS, a Comprehensive Software Suite
Enabling Mobile Operators to Become M-Retailers
Dublin, Ireland and Cannes, France, 14 February 2005 - Xiam, a market-leading developer of m-commerce enablement solutions, announces the availability of MPOS, the first mobile content handling suite to cover everything from the precise definition of target audience to a unified view of all content services. Furthermore, with the Xiam Decision module, the company is bringing to market the first self-learning technology based on mobile customers’ behaviour.
"What we’re announcing today is an end-to-end retailing solution to address mobile operators’ need to sell more content services across their entire subscriber base whilst maximising their current investment in delivery platforms and content provider relationships,” said Kurt Lillywhite, VP of marketing at Xiam.
In essence, what the MPOS Suite from Xiam represents is the ability to apply classic retail logic and methodology to the m-commerce environment. Products that offer a better margin to the store operator are given prominence, while consumer interest in a particular new line can be detected early, so that the store can negotiate a better deal with the provider. And as in the classic beer-and-diapers scenario for supermarkets, products that an operator notices appeal to a subscriber that buys a certain class of product can be proactively offered to him or her next time they are logged onto the portal, or even outside of that time by P2P message or m-mail.
The MPOS suite comprises four key modules:
PROFILE
Is the module that builds an intelligent profile of the subscriber. It first draws information from other relevant sources such as CRM and billing databases and data warehouses, then collects and collates information about the individual subscriber’s responses to mobile promotions such that, over time, an ever more detailed picture of the best way to address that person emerges: when to send an SMS or MMS; whether to send a message with a URL; which banner ads are most likely to provoke a response from that subscriber and do they have the funds available in the first place, etc. It also feeds its information back to the profile so that a second promotion can be better informed and targeted than the first, each learning from the ones that have gone before.
CATALOGUE
Sits in front of all an operator’s content providers to build a unified metadata view of all the content and systems available on its portal. It collects not just the basic information on the content such as “Britney video clip” but also which song it contains, when it was released and what position it reached in the charts, how it relates to other content, which devices support it and the sales margin. This adds value for the customer. Catalogue can then automatically consolidate all content from multiple content sources, for example, for “Britney”, group all songs, ringtones, videos, etc. as a single asset group.
DECISION
DECISION utilises all of the information gathered by CATALOGUE and PROFILE to present relevant, interesting and timely content services and promotions to the subscribers. DECISION brings self-learning capabilities that enable operators to ensure they are automatically maximising the sales opportunities everytime a subscriber uses their content services and maximising their margin on each transaction.
PROMOTE
PROMOTE provides the ability to drive automated interactive outbound campaigns and banner adverts directly to tightly targeted customers ensuring maximum impact from the minimum number of touches.
“With Xiam’s solution, we are able to actively engage our customers rather than SPAM them”, Rogers AT & T Wireless.
“With MPOS we are bringing the methodology of real-world retailing to the mobile internet,” said Lillywhite. “Personalisation engines have an important role to play in helping subscribers choose what they want operators to deliver to them, but MPOS from Xiam empowers the operators with the knowledge of how their subscribers use content services. We enable them to craft their promotions for maximum results, addressing the customers at the times and in the ways that they are more likely to respond positively, and prioritising content from the providers that give them the best return.”
